Moderis
Moderis is an immersive, collaborative, and interactive educational video game designed to raise awareness among adolescents about the ecological challenges of waste management. The game allows players to discover the stages of waste management through three engaging missions, each representing a different part of the waste cycle: collection, sorting, and energy production.
In a hypothetical future where the planet Moderis has become uninhabitable due to waste accumulation, players take on the roles of young characters determined to clean and recycle the trash to make the planet habitable again. The game is designed for groups of 3 to 4 players, combining virtual reality and traditional controls to offer a unique transmedia experience.
Missions:
Greta: One player uses a VR headset to collect waste on the planet Moderis, sorting it by type—bio-waste, glass, recyclables, and incinerables. Their actions help repair the surrounding buildings, making the experience highly immersive.
Valoris: One or two players act as sorters in a recycling center, using joysticks to sort waste sent by the VR player into categories like cardboard, plastics, paper, and metals. The recycled materials contribute to rebuilding structures on Moderis.
Nergia: Another player assumes the role of a crane operator in an incineration plant, controlling a grab with a joystick to produce energy (heat or electricity) while avoiding incidents. The energy produced aids in reconstructing the planet.
The game emphasizes teamwork and communication, as each player's actions directly impact the others. After gameplay, facilitators present a video showcasing real-world waste treatment processes, followed by discussions to deepen understanding and encourage reflection on waste production and management.
