Doomocracy

Doomocracy is an educational card game designed for high school history and geography classes.

Created during the 2018 EduGameJam, where the winning team developed its first prototype in 48 hours, the project was later refined and produced by the GameLab over the following year.

The game lasts about one hour—including rule explanation, gameplay, and debrief—and is intended for a class of 20–30 students divided into five teams, each representing a world region (Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Asia). Players must collaborate to prevent the end of life on Earth while managing conflicting regional objectives. Across ten rounds, crisis cards are drawn, prompting teams to vote on global decisions that affect their Economic, Social, and Environmental indicators.
These indicators visually reflect each region’s condition. If one region crosses a critical threshold, it triggers consequences for all others, forcing players to balance cooperation and self-interest in order to sustain the planet’s global health.
